DAY 61

Friday, 8/29/69

Howard got us up at 6:30 a.m. M. slept all night outside. He had such a nice smile on his face...loved it outdoors! We left Lassen (holding tank empty and H2O tank and gas full) by 8:10 a.m. Drove down to Susanville where we stopped for mid-morning snack. Drove on very good highway through Reno (ugh!) and onto North Shore of Lake Tahoe. Such a clear day. Someone in Lassen had told us how to come here and worked out very well. Luckily, in Tahoe City, we got the last campsite in William Kent U.S. Forest Service Campground.
Most difficult to maneuver into but Howard finally did it. Some job! M. stayed at site while Howard, boys and I went to town to do the laundry and food shop. All pooped! Evening drove to South Lake Tahoe (which I thought was a few miles and turned out to be 27 windy ones!). We went to an Italian restaurant for dinner (9:00 p.m.!). All fell asleep on way home.
