DAY 56

Sunday, 8/24/69

Benji overflooded engine and had trouble leaving earlier. Finally, all straightened and on this windy, cool, rainy (off and on) day we left for points South. Stopped in town of Garibaldi for some fresh crab and smoked tuna and crackers. Went little further past town near the beach and found blackberry (wild) bushes loaded with fruit. We parked and all grabbed buckets and went to town. We all worked and the more we picked the more we found. It was a gratifying experience for all of us.

Drove down to Tillamook and visited the cheese plant.

Stopped at rest stop outside small town of Hebo for lunch and I fell asleep. Howard and boys caught two small trout and threw them back. What a leisurely day. Clouds in and out and Tillamook Valley very beautiful. Decided to can all our berries and stopped at a market to buy sugar and jars! Camped in Lincoln City on the coast at a state park – Devils Lake S.P. Had hookups, which at this point are convenient for us (showers, hair washed and canning). Had fast dinner and we went to our first movie all summer to see 2001, A Space Odyssey. Design great; story content very weak. B. and D. fell asleep. M. inspired to draw when “home” and did so while we read. Bed late!
