DAY 45

Wednesday, 8/13/69

Drive took only one hour to get here ( Lake Louise Campground) and Howard got a spot quickly as the whole place is full of people. We unhitched trailer, drove to Lake Louise. Still as I remember it 17 years earlier. The Chateau still crawling with stuffiness! Iceland poppies all over the place! Cold.
Drove to Moraine Lake and short hike to get better view of it. Emerald green! Boys fed chipmunks and ground squirrels.

On to Banff after lunch. Really a bustling town site, larger than when I last saw it. Went to the Parks Administration grounds and saw unbelievable variety of poppies and other flowers known in this area. Walked in shops – mostly tourist junk. Went to trading post-museum and to a buffalo paddock.

Ate dinner and headed back to Lake Louise. The drive very scenic and ever-changing each hour. We actually saw one black bear and two elk feeding, otherwise all the wildlife in hiding. Went to park campfire and movie when we got back. Warmed up with hot chocolate and coffee and bed.
